Does not need emission test.

Based on what? Is this a Illinois thing? Where I live, every vehicle younger than 25 years requires testing every other year.

But all that aside, this car is crazy illegal.

Yeah, because it didn’t pass emissions.

The county in Oregon where I went to university didn’t require emissions tests.

Bring it to me. No emission test needed in AL.

American emissions standards. I’m sure the Japanese have emissions standards too.

That’s why I asked. I lived somewhere else in SnoCo not too long ago that didn’t require testing, though where I live now certainly does.

Yeah, but it’s harder to spot, since you can just register it as a Celica. Emissions testing on post-96 cars is done by an OBD computer scan, not sniffers, so it can pass.

Imported cars are exempt from safety standards after 25 years, as everyone here knows, but the emissions exemption starts after 21 years.

I would also like to add on that the gt4 has a completely different floor pan compared to the us market Celica. Also it probably doesn’t have the same U.S. market safety features built in too (big ass bumper beams).

Emissions are done by county in Illinois, with certain zip codes (usually the super rural ones) being exempt. But Schaumburg is, like, 70,000-some people and definitely requires emissions (I’m a town over). Show cars don’t require testing, but then you’re limited to driving to:

A) Car shows

B) Gas stations

C) Repair shops

And that’s it. You get caught driving to the grocery store, there’s a chance at fines, maybe revoking of registration, maybe crushing, depending on the officer and the judge. Having registered as a show car is the only way I see it getting past the Fed, though.

Still easier to get away with than a Skyline, which doesn’t have a US-market floor pan at all. And by the time the feds catch it, it’ll be 25 years old anyway :)

I guess it would be easier with celica *cough* vin swap *cough* than a skyline. Wait I just remembered Japanese ECUs don’t pass our OBDII tests (hence why some subaru guys run ej205 ecus on early model ej207 swaps to pass emissions) apparently though technically being OBD it isn’t exactly OBDII so the computer thinks the ECU is faulty resulting in an auto fail.

Dude JDM ST205's are 6 grand in Canada this is BEYOND crack pipe.

Besides it will get crushed anyway. Just because we have a USDM version of that car does NOT make a JDM one fed legal.
